A specially commissioned oil painting on canvas interpreting A Regatta On The Grand Canal by Canaletto.

The original, about 1740 hangs in the National Gallery, London and depicts the annual carnival regatta in Venice, in particular the one-oared light gondala race.  Some figures wear the 'bauta' - a costume of white mask and black cape, typically worn during the carnival and the floating pavilion on the left is from where coloured flags were presented to the winners. This painting is a companion piece to "Venice: The Basin of San Marco on Ascension Day" of the same date.

The canvas has been stretched and mounted in a hand made, bespoke 4" swept frame with slip in metal leaf finish.
