The taste for replica furniture can be said to have started in England in the 18th c. It is difficult to pin point exactly, because of course designers have always taken influence from something which has gone before. Technically, one might ascertain the Renaissance as the beginnings of the tradition. From this period, designers were taking inspiration from Greek and Roman designs and interpreting them in to furniture. Up until the reign of Queen Anne, the influences on furniture were continuations and refinements of Gothic and Baroque colloquial styles – Queen Anne style being very refined and light. After Queen Anne came George I, and through the reigns of subsequent Georges did furniture become more and more influenced by Neo Classical designs, imported from the continent by the new King, from Germany.
Brights of Nettlebed are the UK's longest running suppliers of replica and reproduction furniture - we are delighted to be able to offer beautiful, hand-built replicas of truly stunning pieces of furniture history. Some of the original designs have been slightly adapted to suit the demand of modern living – this is one of the benefits of owning a piece of replica furniture.
