About this Piece
This original oil painting is an interpretation of The Blue Boy (circa 1779) by Thomas Gainsborough. Considered to be Gainsborough's most famous work, it is a historical costume study as well as a portrait The sitter is thought to be Jonathan Buttall (1752–1805), the son of a wealthy hardware merchant, although this has never been proven.
