About this Piece
An original Victorian style oil painting on canvas of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee after Andrew Carrick Gow.
The painting depicts a view of the west front of St Paul’s Cathedral as Queen Victoria greets the crowds celebrating gathered to celebrate 60 years of her reign. The Diamond Jubilee was commemorated with a procession through Westminster, The City and Southwark. The parade was halted for 20 minutes for a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral, this is the scene captured by Andrew Carrick Gow.
The canvas has been applied with ageing varnish, then stretched and mounted in in a hand-made 4 inch wide metal leaf frame.
