An intriguing 18th Century style mahogany reading chair with yoke-shaped top rail, adjustable easel and saddle seat, allowing the bibliophile to sit in the chair backwards and read in comfort.
This type of chair serves the purpose of making the exercise of reading easy. In 1803, the designer Thomas Sheraton stated in ‘The Cabinet Dictionary’ that reading chairs 'are intended to facilitate the exercise of reading and for the convenience of jotting down a note or quotation on any subject.’
The reader places himself with his back to the front of the chair and rests his arms on the top yoke. Additionally, a drawer is situated beneath the black leather seat for storing and easily accessing reading and writing tools.
Finished with brass nails, on decorative fluted tapering legs terminating in solid brass castors. After an Irish original.
