Tabriz 19thC design silk pile carpet

A Tabriz design carpet, with pure silk pile, hand woven on a cotton foundation to 256 knots per square inch.

The indigo field contrasts with the restrained rose of the mediallion and surrounds. The flowers, tendrils and arabesques in the field and border have an almost modern graphic effect. Specially commissioned to the original size of a 19th Century carpet by master weaver, Hajji Jalili, which was unusual in total conception and one of the cultural treasures of persian manufacture.
