Wine Tables of similar designs to kettle or urn stands are also a popular addition to this collection along with ?pie crust? tables which were extremely popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth century in Britain and America. Pie Crust tables would have been used for various purposes, such as taking tea, needlework or games. They typically incorporated a titling mechanism, which allowed the table to be easily moved and stored out of the way when not in use. Over time, the design of pie crust tables was developed so that the top could also be removed completely; however, this type of table is commonly referred to as a birdcage table. The tripod legs would be decoratively carved so when the table top was vertical the full extent of the pie crust and carved legs would be on full view. Very elaborate tables were inlaid with marquetry patterns using different coloured woods, shading of the wood mosaic pieces were achieved by burning them in hot sand.
