The Golfers, oil Painting in style of Charles Lees

Price
£4,610

A specially commissioned oil painting, interpreting The Golfers in style of Charles Lees.

The original painted in 1847 by Lees depicts a match being played on the Old Course at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, St Andrews. The centre of everybody's attention is a decisive moment in a match between Sir David Baird and Sir Ralph Anstruther against Major Hugh Lyon Playfair and John Campbell of Glen Saddel. Lee carefully composed this complex scene, which includes over fifty individual portraits, using photographs of some of the golfers to help him.

The canvas has been stretched and mounted in a hand made 3 inch frame with shot, finished to a light antique patina.
