Traditionally Console tables were used for displaying decorative items or accessories. They can also be used to hold lamps. They are often found in hallways/entryways and you might even find a mirror above them. The console table is versatile and can also used as a vanity table in a bedroom, as a small server in a dining room or even a small table/desk in a home office. They have been used throughout the centuries and designs range from the simplest to the most ornate with marquetry inlays or carvings. Mirrors often hang above a console table where the pattern or carving from the table is reproduced on the frame of the mirror to make a complete statement piece. In Stately homes it would be usual to have a pair of demi lune console tables, and the two pieces could be put together to make one circular table or alternatively, each piece could be placed on the end of the dining table to extend it.
