A very fine Neoclassical commode chest in flame Cerejeira, Morado and fine marquetry in veneers and Mother of Pearl, the serpentine fan inlaid top with bellflower details, the marquetry edge above two drawers with fine penwork swag inlays in sycamore veneer, above two Morado banded and double line strung paneled doors with floral roundels and a central oval containing detailed urn inlays in specimen veneers and with finely cast and engraved hinges and lock.

Inspired by an original by John Mayhew and William Ince, circa 1790. The Firm of Mayhew & Ince was closely allied to Robert Adam and it was they who realized many of Adams furniture designs. They published 'The Universal System of Household Furniture' in 1762 dedicated to 4th Duke of Marlborough. Mayhew and Ince worked for many notable patrons who included the Prince of Wales, 5th Duke of Devonshire, 5th Duke of Bedford and 1st Duke of Northumberland.
