William and Mary 18th-century style side table

A fine ebonised and Imari style hand painted side table. A rectangular molded edge top covers a frieze drawer with fine brass handles, above an unusual base of arched scrolling legs joined by stretchers.  Inspired by an unusual early 18th century hinged top table in the Long Gallery at Althorp. The piece itself is very unusual and influenced by both William and Mary precedents in design as well as having 18th century Dutch design influences. In particular the delicacy of the base and the graceful scroll of the legs are very curious features which make this initially unassuming piece stand out as a compelling design enigma.
