About this Piece
George III style gilt and ebonised overmantel mirror with rope and tassel surround. Stylised dolphins support candle shelves either side. The mirror frame is entirely hand carved in mahogany and water gilded in 23¾ carat gold leaf, in a Gilder's Special finish - the leaf has been layed over a yellow bole and highly burnished with an agate stone for a bright finish with some matt areas and black painted details for a stunning effect.
The original 19th century mirror commanded an estimate of $18,000 - $25,000 at auction in April 2008.
